Scouting has changed. It has to, it wasn’t about to sit on its haunches as Bear Grylls became our Chief Scout!

Whether you’re 18 or 80; male or female; former Scout, or no Scouting experience whatsoever, free every week, or only free a few hours a year, Perth and Kinross Scouts has the potential to inject some fun into your life and can utilise your enthusiasm, skills or experience.

We are made up of people from all walks of life with all manner of backgrounds. We all have a sense of humour – there’s not much point in giving freely of your time if you don’t enjoy it! Some of us enjoy working with and guiding young people to develop their potential and others have managerial, administrative and financial experience and skills which underpin the opportunities for our youth members. We are all a part of a team but are also all individuals – recognising diversity as a strength in our membership.

So what are you waiting for? We have 26 Scout Groups in Perth and Kinross, and Scouting’s popularity has exploded in recent months as we see more youngsters joining us than ever before. Your District Needs You to enable us to embrace our popularity and offer opportunities for 6-25 year olds.

If you enjoy working directly with young people, then you could join us as a uniformed Leader or Skills Instructor. We also need Sectional Assistants – an extra pair of hands with each of our Sections. We also have opportunities for Skills Instructors – people who can enthuse young people about their hobbies and teach them how to take part in activities safely – everything from mountaineering to archery; cycling to cooking.
If you’re more inclined to administrative and financial support, fundraising and events organisation, then there’s a number of opportunities for you to contribute in each of our Groups.

Generally, the hours volunteered are flexible, and can be adjusted to accommodate work and family needs. It’s all about identifying the role that’s best suited to YOU! We have embraced flexible volunteering and job share to fit in with busy lifestyles. Some people can commit to two or three hours every week in school term time; others can only come for an hour or two every three weeks or so, but all are welcome and needed. Free training is offered and the level of training depends on the role.

For more information, and an informal chat about how good it is to volunteer for Scouts, email either Sean Thorpe, District Commissioner, on DC@pkscout.org with your contact details, and they will get back to you as soon as possible.
