The Explorer Section of Scouting gives youth members from the ages of 14.5 – 18 the opportunity to advance their Life and Scouting skills and begin their development into adulthood.
The Section is essentially led by the Youth members with guidance from the Adult teams and is open to all. Being one of the most flexible Sections, Explorers takes into account the other priorities at this time of life – examinations, work and University/College and many attend national camps and activities that are arranged throughout the year. We have six Units in Perth and Kinross based in Perth City, Alyth, Bankfoot, Pitlochry/Aberfeldy and Milnathort – all of which meet weekly and offer varied exciting programmes.
We have slept in secret bunkers, made cheese in Poland, cycled the Rhine valley, zorbed, paint-balled, hammocked, shot clays, done almost anything you can do on the water and in canyons – it’s not all about knots and woggles!!
Opportunities also exist to work with other younger Sections as Young Leaders – some use this as their DoE service element to The Award, passing on their skills to Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and a comprehensive training programme is offered within Perth & Kinross.
